Mayor’s Office of Sustainability & Climate Justice:
Nature Based Solutions Intern
Paid by Tri-C at $15.15/hour
The Mayor’s Office of Sustainability & Climate Justice (MOSCJ) works with the community to improve the economy, environment, and well-being of people in
Cleveland while addressing the impacts of climate change. The office works with City departments to create policies and programs that promote sustainability and aim for carbon neutrality by 2050. The Nature-Based Solutions Intern will support the Nature-Based Solutions Sustainability Manager.
Examples of Duties:
1. Support implementation of priority climate actions, such as expanding tree stewardship and composting.
2. Evaluating and assessing damage to rain gardens by taking photos and collecting data.
3. Assisting in tree and native species planting across the City.
4. Prepare educational materials on the benefits of rain gardens, urban forestry, composting, and other climate resilience and stormwater management practices
5. Answering general questions about nature-based solutions in Cleveland’s Climate Action Plan.
6. Supporting the Complete and Green Streets and urban forestry teams as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college or university with an interest in Sustainability & Climate Justice or related field
• Strong fluency in Microsoft Office products, such as PowerPoint, Word, etc.
• Ability to work independently, exercising responsible judgment and initiative
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Must have excellent verbal communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills
• Candidate must be available to work within the prescribed hours or if flexible hours or offered, during the season in which he or she is employed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working on projects or programs that aim to protect nature,natural ecosystems and/or address climate change challenges.
• The ability to build good working relationships with different partners and groups, such as county or state agencies.
• Good skills in writing, speaking, and making presentations.
• Ability to evaluate and improve project planning and outcomes.
• Familiarity with the issues affecting Cleveland and the surrounding area.
15-20 Hours a week
