Elections are the foundation of democracy and can’t happen without poll workers. More than half of current poll workers are sixty or older and are at a higher risk of complications from Covid. The Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities, Center for Civic Engagement & Learning, Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence, and Social Justice Institute are supporting students serving as poll workers to help make sure the 2020 election is a success.
The Student Poll Worker Initiative provides a template that students can use to ask for an excused absence from class for working the polls on November 3. Student poll workers may also request personal protective equipment and reimbursement for travel related expenses.
